01 Racking & warehouse

Racking, permits and the fire marshal.

New and used pallet racking, teardown and reconfiguration, warehouse layout, and the permit package that has to survive fire code review afterwards. The rack is the easy part. Getting it approved for what you actually store is the job.

Pallet racking installation Install Pallet racking installation

The short version

S&T Management Group Inc installs, tears down and reconfigures pallet racking, and assembles the permit packages that go with it. That covers new and used racking, warehouse layout, capacity and anchorage, and the high-piled storage submittal when more than 500 square feet of the building is used for high-piled combustible storage. Structural rack documents are sealed by licensed Texas professional engineers where the work requires a seal.

02 Scope

What sits under this heading.

No.ItemWhat it covers
01New & used pallet rackingSupply, install and certify. Used racking is a real saving and a real risk — capacity data has to come with it
02Teardown & reconfigurationRelocations, aisle changes and re-pitching a building for a different commodity
03Warehouse layoutAisle widths, flue spaces and pick paths worked against the sprinkler system you actually have
04Capacity & anchorageLoad ratings, seismic and anchorage calculations, sealed by licensed Texas professional engineers where required
05High-piled storage permitCommodity classification, plan of storage, sprinkler basis and smoke removal — submitted and carried through review
06Occupancy complianceWhat changes when the commodity changes, and what triggers a new submittal

03 The order that matters

Classify first. Bolt second.

Commodity class drives flue spacing, aisle width, sprinkler density and maximum storage height — all of which are decided by the rack layout. Installing first and permitting after is the most expensive sequence available.

Before install
  • What you store, by commodity class
  • What the sprinkler system was designed for
  • Whether the array crosses 500 square feet
At submittal
  • Plan of storage and commodity description
  • Flue space and aisle dimensions
  • Smoke and heat removal where required
After approval
  • Install to the approved plan
  • Fire marshal inspection
  • Anything that changes the commodity starts this again

04 Go deeper

The permit side has its own page.

High-piled storage is where most racking projects actually get stuck. Commodity classification, flue spaces, aisle widths, sprinkler basis and smoke removal — with an interactive classifier to work out roughly where you stand.
